about
This track was created with the collaboration of the talented Daniel Baboulene, Paul John Bailey and Miguel Dean. Miguel was homeless for 7 years and submitted a poem to us about his experiences, which Daniel then adapted into a song. The raw, powerful voice of Paul John Bailey completes the track that will have you replaying again and again. Our thanks go to Dan, who played all the instruments on the track, recorded and produced it for us for free, and of course Paul, who also sang for no cost.
This track was created as part of Sleeping Rough Film, a docudrama about homelessness in the UK today. We aim to get people talking and thinking about homelessness in a more nuanced way through education and the distribution of real stories. I am delighted to present you with this track and would like to thank everyone who dedicated so much time and effort to its production. Please do buy the track for whatever you think it's worth - 50% will be going to the film's production and the other 50% will be going to the Big Issue Foundation.
Big love from Sleeping Rough Film producers, Owain and Melita
lyrics
Do ever wonder how I came to be down here?
I have a tale to tell you if you have time to hear,
We too hide secrets of stories untold,
We still shiver when the nights turn cold.
You make your way, my face may be grey,
but you pass me by in your wild haste,
Don't feel a thing, can't stand the sight.
But in my centre, there's a small shimmering light.
The same light that wakes you in the night.
the same light when you choose the streets.
You choose debt and choose TV
We're not so different you and me x 3
You will find if you dare to let it be,
In me you'll see you and in you I'll see me.
Believe it or not, we were innocent children once,
we also had dreams of love and romance.
The road it got twisted, windy and dark,
Now home is a doorway with a view of the park.
You make your way, my face may be grey,
but you pass me by with your wild haste.
Don't feel a fool, can't stand the sight,
But in my centre, there's a small shimmering light.
The same light that wakes you in the night,
The same light when you choose the streets.
You choose debt and choose TV
We're not so different you and me.
You'll find if you dare to let it be,
In me I'll see you and in you I'll see me.
